Meta-Terra Triathlon Training

Alex & Michael

Before his recent move to the West Coast, Ironman Canada Champion Michael McCormack swim trained for three years with Alex. Though primarily self-coached, Michael has been one of Alex's most dedicated American professionals-in-training. Until his return, we wish him continued success on the international triathlon circuit.

Since training and coaching under Alex at the Lvov Olympic Institute, Anatoly has gained a well earned reputation as an exceptional triathlon and pentathlon coach. Since 1995, Anatoly has brought his elite triathletes to Boston to swim train in Alex's Masters and we are looking forward to his return in the near future.

Alex & Anatoly

This multi-sport training benefits from Alex's 25 year history of cultivating World, Olympic, and National Champion Pentathletes and triathletes, several of whom now compete among the ranks of the world's top elite masters and world-age group categories. As an integral component of the regular Masters Swim, Meta-Terra will continue as a frequent training pool for several of Alex's top thirty world ranking elite masters and world age-group competitors this fall. We anticipate return visits from perennial Ironman powerhouse, Michael McCormack, top six Kona age-group finisher, Anatoly Chevchuk (who will lend his Lvov Olympic Institute coaching expertise to the running and cycling programs in '98) and Florida Long Distance Challenge Champion, Bogdan Mikhalus. Finishing twice in the top 30 at Kona (13th fastest swim in '97), Bogdan won this years German Ironman swim, finished 2nd in the Australian and Denmark Ironman swim events, and was 5th overall in Zurich. He swam half (1.2 miles) of Kona's salt water course after losing his goggles to another competitor's errant elbow. After swim-training with Alex in Moscow (1989), Bogdan began triathlon training with Alex's student and assistant coach, Anatoly Chevchuk. He has competed frequently with at least two other top ranking elite masters who have trained regularly with Alex's Masters Swim in the past two years. Like Anatoly, he looks forward to coaching the running and cycling components of Alex's Meta-Terra Triathlon Training program.

Other high ranking professionals and competitive amateurs, including former All American, Jamie McJunkin, Mass. State 500 Champion, Joanna O'Kelly, Olympic Pentathon hopeful, Mark Keupe, and four time National Master's Champion, Owen McGonagle, will see plenty of action in these combined Masters/Triathete swim-training workouts over the course of the year.

Swim Workouts

At the outset, Meta-Terra triathletes build technical excellence and competitive skills in the Masters' Program. Individuals preparing for specific race events often undertake modified training and tapered workouts leading up to race day. All parties with specific agendas and questions consult with Alex regularly.
